We learn new things every day.Processes change at work. We meet new people. We cook new recipes. We areconstantly learning and growing.
But sometimes we learnsomething that qualifies as a discovery. A piece of new information - afeeling, a song, a place, an event, a book, a random fact - can sometimeschange our view on the world and our place in it. Discovery can bring onpositive change, but sometimes discovery is hard. Sometimes it causesconflict. But after a discovery, something about you just isn't quite thesame.
What discovery did you make in 2011? What kind of impact did it have on howyou view the world today?
What discovery did you make in 2011? What kind of impact did it have on howyou view the world today?
How will you resound?
I fear that I am beginning to sound a bit like a broken record and that is certainly not my intention, it is merely due to the way that these prompts are being presented. I have discovered so much in this past year it amazes even me. Being a perpetual student, learning is almost a second nature activity, however this year it has been more about learning about my interactions with others. I have been looking carefully at my relationships, trying to understand what their function is. I firmly believe that we meet people in our lives constantly whose purpose is to teach us things. I have learnt many new lessons, like even if you know it for certain to be the truth, telling that truth to someone might result in you never speaking to them again, their choice not yours. Even if the truth comes from a place of love, if they are not ready to hear it, sometimes they would rather lose your friendship than deal with that truth.
I have met people this year that have made me aware of things I don't like or appreciate about myself or others. We sometime attract to ourselves people who mirror our own behaviour, and we can only see our own "failings" when played out in the actions of others. Sometimes simply spending time with someone, even if it is while standing in a queue, a simple conversation can provide you with an answer you have been searching for for days, weeks even.
An interesting development has been the understanding that what we focus on can become our reality, that we attract these things into our lives. So I have learnt a lot about the law of attraction and trying to put this to work, I am astonished at how well it is working. An example of this was on Monday this week I visited my elderly neighbour for our weekly chat. On my way out I commented on how wonderful her Orchid was full of blooms. When I got home I looked at my poor little Orchid that had finished flowering and made a small promise to myself, when I could afford it I would buy myself one of those lovely large Orchids. Fast forward to Wednesday morning, I meet up with a dear freind, who is standing waiting for me, with a huge potted Orchid in her arms which she gave to me as an early Christmas Present. See it works!
(This post is stuck in Italics and as it refuses to change, that is how it will stay!)
