Day 16 - Ordinary extraordinary

Have you ever heard the expression "God is in the details?"Or, perhaps, "the devil is in the details?"

In college, I had an instructor who would circle themost minuscule omissions in red pen and write that phrase: God is inthe details. Accidentally double space after a period when the rest have singlespaces? Red pen. God is in the details. Barely noticeable typography goof-up?Red pen. God is in the details.

Annoying, right? Right, but insightful. At the time I was annoyed because I hadfive classes of nothing but writing and creating and the last thing on my mindwas a tiny, forgotten detail. When you think about it though, it is the detailsthat make up our lives: little, seemingly insignificant details, choices, andmoments that make up our life, make up our story.

Sometimes the most ordinary, mundane things can turn into extraordinarymoments. What was one of your most extraordinary ordinary moments this year?

Our story is in the details ... How will you resound?

I hadn't realised how many of the small details I was regularly missing.  One of the greatest gifts of this year has been the ability to pay attention to the little things.  Otherwise I think you get to the end of your life and you find you have missed a great part of it because you were not paying attention.  The kind of things I have paid more attention to have been the colours of the sunsets and sunrise, how intense the colours are after rain.  That having a small picnic out somewhere can be just as enjoyable as going out to a restaurant for a meal.  A few simple ingredients can make a wonderful meal, it doesn't have to be complicated and take hours to prepare.  That new is not always better, through my daughter I have learnt the fun of spending time searching through vintage stores and antique shops.  With simplicity comes clarity, comes happiness.
